Notes |
- The 1811 Census of River Bourgeois records only 2 Dugas's:
1. Andrew Dugat Fisherman with 1 Male 14-60, 1 Female 14-60, 2 Males under 14, 2 Females under 14, 1 Male or Female over 60, and 4 Unmarried Males and Females
2. Martial Dugat Fisherman with 2 Males 14-60, 1 Female 14-60, 2 Males under 14, 2 Females under 14, no Males or Females over 60, and 4 Unmarried Males and Females
The 1813 Militia Roll for River Bourgeois records only 3 Dugas's:
1. Marcellus Dugat age 40 Fisherman born Cape Breton with 1 Woman, 2 Boys, and 2 Girls
2. John Dugat age 50 Fisherman born Cape Breton with no Women, Boys, or Girls
3. Andrew Dugat age 33 Fisherman born Cape Breton with 1 Woman, 2 Boys, and 3 Girls
It is reasonable to conclude John Dugat age 50 in the 1813 Militia Roll for River Bourgeois is the second Male 14-60 residing with Martial Dugat in the 1811 Census of River Bourgeois. Martial Dugas' 4 children under 14 in the 1811 Census of River Bourgeois are the 4 Unmarried Males and Females. So, it is reasonable to conclude John Dugat age 50 is widowed.
The 1838 Census of River Bourgeois records John and Forseen (sic) Dugo (sic) Fisherman with 1 Male 6-14, 1 Female 6-14, 1 Male over 14, and 2 Females over 14. With 3 children over 14, they married several years before 1824.
The 1838 Census of River Bourgeois also records the following 6 Dugas (or variant spelling) families: Celesten & Margt Degue, Marceil Degue Jr, Maturine & Mary Degue, Placid & Angel Degue, Andrew & Collit Degue, and Marsell & Martha Dugua.
FamilySearch's Nova Scotia, Antigonish Catholic Diocese, 1823-1905 records the following events involving Cyprien Dugas of River Bourgeois:
1. Baptism of Abraham born August 27 1829 in River Bourgeois, son of Cyprien Dugas and Euphrosine Minier (sic), on December 27 1829 in L'Ardoise
2. Marriage of Angélique Dugas, daughter of Cyprien Dugas and Euphrosine Meunier, and Lucien Bourke, son of Pierre Bourke and Nanon (Anne) Boucher, on January 11 1841 in River Bourgeois
3. Marriage of Sophie Dugast, daughter of Cyprien Dugast and Euphrosine Meunier, and Désiré Landry, son of Anselm Landry and the late Anne Cordeau, on January 9 1843 in River Bourgeois
4. Marriage of Euphrosine Dugast, daughter of Cyprien Dugast and Euphrosine Meunier, and Isadore Landry, son of Anselm Landry and the late Anne Cordeau, on January 18 1847 in River Bourgeois
5. Marriage of Abraham Dugast, son of Cyprien Dugast and Euphrosine Meunier, and Emmelie Bourg, daughter of Simon Bourg and the late Emmelie LeBlanc, on January 28 1850 in River Bourgeois
Of the 7 Dugas (or variant spelling) families in the 1838 Census of River Bourgeois, the only family with a wife who could be Euphrosine Meunier is the family of John and Forseen (sic) Dugo (sic). So, it is reasonable to conclude John Dugo in the 1838 Census of River Bourgeois and Cyprien Dugas in the above L'Ardoise and River Bourgeois baptism and marriages are the same person (i.e. John is an alias for Cyprien in the 1838 Census).
See Notes for Célestin Dugas, husband of Marguerite Landry, for the identify of the 6 Dugas families in the 1838 Census of River Bourgeois other than Cyprien Dugas and Euphrosine Meunier. These Notes identify the 4 sons of André Dugas and Martial Dugas in the 1811 Census of River Bourgeois and 1813 Militia Roll for River Bourgeois.
So, it is reasonable to conclude John Dugo in the 1838 Census of River Bourgeois with 3 children over 14 is John Dugat age 50 in the 1813 Militia Roll for River Bourgeois. No other children of André Dugas or Martial Dugas would be old enough to have 3 children over 14 in the 1838 Census. John Dugat age 50 in the 1813 Militia Roll for River Bourgeois was born about 1763.
As Cyprien Dugas resides with Martial Dugas in the 1811 Census of River Bourgeois, it is reasonable to believe Cyprien Dugas is related to Martial Dugas. So, it is reasonable to believe Cyprien Dugas and Martial Dugas could be brothers, and Cyprien Dugas is most likely Cyprien, son of Jean Baptiste Dugas and Marie Landry, born February 17 1768.
